Molly Appleton

Molly is a Sports Journalist at The Advocate Newspaper who had a different path than many.

Armed with a Law Degree from the University of Tasmania and a growing social media presence and blog, Molly's Footy Rants, Molly started work at Seven Tasmania (Southern Cross Austereo) in Launceston. There she worked as a Digital Unit Media Coordinator, where she assisted the producer for an hour-long statewide bulletin recorded live in studio. This was in addition to monitoring social media platforms, writing daily updates and producing the sport section.

Molly also branched into sport journalism opportunities during this time. She has been a contributor with The Women's Game, Beyond 90, Football Tasmania and The Guardian.

Molly accepted a news journalism job at The Advocate Newspaper in Burnie following two years at Seven Tasmania. From pitching stories to building contacts, the position helped hone Molly's news gathering skills whilst covering a wide variety of issues in the regional area of North-West Tasmania.

Inevitably, Molly was drawn to sport journalism and switched hats after a year of general news reporting. On top of covering local sport and ensuring the region is kept up-to-date with the latest news across all codes, Molly has picked up skills that come from working in the smaller sports team, including allocating print lay-outs and digital schedules/posts.
