Webinar: Growing Women’s Football in Asia-Pacific

Updated: Jun 7, 2021

Women Onside is pleased to have partnered with Portas, an international consultancy firm focussed on sports strategy building, to include our members and followers to a webinar “Changing the Game: Growing Women’s Football in Asia-Pacific”.

The webinar explored how leading International Federations, National Federations and leagues within and beyond Asia are developing strategic plans to grow the women’s game despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Women’s football has experienced unprecedented growth in recent years, with rising participation levels, an expanding fanbase and increasing commercial value. As the host of several international events, including the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Asia-Pacific region has the opportunity to change its women’s football landscape.

The webinar shared Portas’ work for UEFA on how to build women’s football strategic plans, speak with key leaders of women’s football in the UK and Asia, and hear from the Australian hosts of the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Moderated by former AFC Vice President Moya Dodd from Women Onside, our guest speakers included:

  • Kelly Simmons: Director of the Women’s Professional Game, The FA (England)

  • Lili Bai: Head of Women’s Football, Asian Football Confederation

  • Jane Fernandez: Head of Women’s World Cup 2023 Office, Football Federation Australia

This webinar was of particular interest to those involved with women’s football strategy development in governance and management roles at national, state and association level and in clubs with professional and semi-professional women’s teams.

Held on Thursday 26 November 2020 7:00 pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time
