Refereeing... let's talk about it

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

women referees talking together to support each other

The Women Onside Match Officials Network is auspicing a special event just for women referees.

"Let's Talk about It" is a group discussion for women referees around Australia to talk to each other in a safe space about their personal experiences as referees - the highlights, the challenges, things you have learned and would like to share, the ideas for a better refereeing future.

Sometimes refereeing can be a lonely place, especially for women. It’s so important going forward that the voices of women referees are heard and women referees are empowered to thrive in the future.

You all have a story, you all have something to give and get back.

Led by experienced international and national level women referees this session will be a positive sharing experience between women referees. Going forward Women Onside hopes to provide support for women referees through policy advocacy and leadership training. This current project is a start.

Where and when: on Zoom, Monday 23 August 2021 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Who is this for? any women referees – from those officiating local junior matches to international

Host for the session is Allyson Flynn, former FIFA assistant referee and current member of Football Australia’s Referees Committee.

Allyson will be supported by a panel of experienced women referees who will lead break-out groups.
