Join Us for an Inspiring Event: Screening of Trailblazers and a Panel Discussion on Gender Equality in Football

Women Onside is excited to be hosting a community engagement event featuring the screening of the Stan Original Documentary "Trailblazers" during the Perth International Football Cup on Saturday, 31 August.

We are thrilled to invite you to an event that promises to be both inspiring and transformative. Join us as we come together to celebrate the incredible achievements of women in football and discuss the critical work still needed to achieve gender equality in the sport.

Trailblazers is a Stan Originals documentary film that tells the amazing story of the fight for equality by Australia’s female footballers. Trailblazers is a Savage Films, Milestone Films, and LM Films production by Director/ Producers Maggie Miles and Maggie Eudes and Producer Lucy Maclaren. The impact campaign, supported by major partner MECCA M-POWER and driven by Documentary Australia, aims to build momentum for further progress in gender equality and leadership and to increase investment and opportunities for women and girls to participate in sports at all levels.

Following the screening, we will host a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring leaders from organisations dedicated to advancing women in football, Mc'ed by the incredible Monica Beazley:

  • Kerry Harris from Women Onside will share insights on how the organisation works tirelessly to ensure that women have equitable opportunities and representation in football leadership through advocacy, engaged networks, and professional development.

  • Bridie Watson from The Female Football Project will highlight the significant gaps in resources and funding for female players and coaching staff in Western Australia, discussing their mission to break down barriers and promote equal recognition for female players as their male counterparts.

  • Karen Hennessy from Women in Sport WA will discuss the social enterprise’s passion for increasing the visibility and participation of women in all aspects of sport in WA, ensuring that women have the same opportunities to excel and be seen in the sports they love.

  • Marly Batenburg from Gaining Ground will share their unique perspective as a female-founded and led mental wellbeing not-for-profit organisation. Their mission to empower women and girls in football to lead on the pitch and in their lives will resonate deeply with all who attend.

This event is a unique opportunity to not only watch a remarkable documentary but also to engage with leaders who are making a tangible impact in the world of women’s football. We invite you to join us for this important conversation, where we will explore what more can be done to support the ongoing fight for equality in football.

Let's come together to celebrate the progress made, reflect on the challenges that remain, and commit to driving further change for women and girls in football.
