Celebrating Female Football Week 2024: A Nationwide Festival of Football

In the spirit of community and camaraderie, Australia gears up to celebrate Female Football Week from May 3rd to May 12th, 2024. This year, under the vibrant theme #WeRise, the festivities will acknowledge and amplify the vital roles that women and girls play in the beautiful game of football.

A Carnival of Football Across the States

Victoria kicks off the week with a focus on social participation, inviting women and girls to check out programs like GO Girls, GO Soccer Mums, and Women's Football Sevens. The state will also host enlightening webinars on topics ranging from coaching and officiating to working within the football industry.

In New South Wales, the spotlight is on Valentine Sports Park, where a plethora of activities, including referee training sessions, coaching workshops, and a Women in Sport Panel discussion, are scheduled.

Moving up to Northern NSW, the celebration commences with a Networking and Awards Night at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, followed by coaching workshops and a gala day for primary school girls—a fun-filled opportunity for budding young athletes.

The capital, represented by Capital Football, will host its prestigious Female Football Week Awards Brunch, celebrating local luminaries and trailblazers who are steering the future of women’s football in the region.

In the island state, Tasmania extends an invitation to community events statewide, emphasising leadership programs and coaching scholarships to nurture future stars and mentors.

South Australia promises a thrilling start with matches across four venues. The region is a hub of football passion, combining competitive play with fun activities to engage the community.

Queensland looks forward to a jam-packed week of football action, showcasing everything from social sessions to competitive leagues, emphasising the drive towards gender parity in participation by 2027.

In the West, Football West prepares to dazzle with its annual Girls' Day Out and a series of networking events. These ensure that every participant, whether new to the game or seasoned players, feels included and celebrated.

Embracing the Future

As we revel in the week's festivities, it’s clear that Female Football Week is more than just a celebration; it's a pivotal moment in the journey toward equality in sport. Each event, match, and workshop is a step towards realising a future where the contributions of women and girls in football are recognised not just for one week but every day.

Football Australia’s ongoing commitment through the Our Game initiative continues to foster an inclusive and vibrant football culture that embraces and elevates female players, coaches, officials, and administrators across the nation.

So, let's lace up our boots, hit the fields, and rise together in a unified celebration of women’s football in Australia. Here's to making every kick count and moving closer to a day when gender equality in football is not just an aspiration but a reality.

Join us in celebrating, supporting, and pushing the boundaries for women in football during this action-packed Female Football Week. Remember, together, #WeRise!
