In a landmark moment for Australian football, the twentieth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Football Australia Limited saw the election of Mr Anter Isaac as the new Chair. The AGM, held on Wednesday, 22 November 2023, marked not only a transition in leadership but also the appointment of a Deputy Chair, a position filled for the first time since Carla Wilshire's tenure.

Following the board's unanimous decision, Mr. Anter Isaac, a highly respected figure in the football community, takes the helm of Football Australia. His extensive experience and dedication to the sport position him well to lead the organisation into a new era, succeeding Mr Chris Nikou, who steps down after a commendable tenure characterised by strategic advancements and many notable achievements.

Another highlight of this AGM is the election of Ms Jaclyn Lee-Joe as Deputy Chair. This role brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience in technology and media to the Football Australia leadership team. This marks a significant moment as the organisation emphasises diversity and inclusivity in its governance structure.

The appointment of a Deputy Chair holds particular significance as it addresses a gap since the departure of Carla Wilshire, showcasing Football Australia's commitment to fostering diversity and providing leadership opportunities for women in football. Ms. Lee-Joe's election is a positive step forward in aligning the organisation with contemporary principles of inclusivity and gender balance.

The outgoing Chair, Mr Chris Nikou, expressed confidence in the future of Australian football under the leadership of Mr Anter Isaac. Reflecting on his impactful tenure, Mr Nikou highlighted the remarkable progress and growth experienced by Australian football, domestically and internationally.

In assuming his new role, Mr. Anter Isaac thanked Mr. Nikou for his exceptional leadership and dedication. He also thanked fellow Board members for their confidence in him and outlined his commitment to building on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor and previous Boards. Mr Isaac's vision for Football Australia focuses on nurturing the nation's passion for football, advancing strategic objectives, and ensuring sustained growth and success across all levels of the sport.

The Football Australia Board now stands united under the leadership of Mr Anter Isaac, with Ms Jaclyn Lee-Joe as Deputy Chair. Their collective expertise, coupled with the diverse perspectives represented on the Board, sets a positive trajectory for Australian football's continued growth and success.

As we celebrate this historic moment, Women Onside congratulates Mr. Anter Isaac on his election as Chair and Ms. Jaclyn Lee-Joe on her appointment as Deputy Chair. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of this leadership team on the future of women's football and women in football in Australia.
